ABOUT SHLA - HARLEM

The St. HOPE Leadership Academy is a
K-12 public charter school scheduled to open in the fall of 2008 in New York City. SHLA is organized into three small schools: elementary school (K – 4), middle school (5 – 8) and high school (9–12).

Each school enrolls approximately 300 students. St. HOPE Leadership Academy will open in August 2008 with 150 students in grades 5, 6, and 7.

The mission of SHLA is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and habits they need to succeed in a four-year university. Equally important is to instill in our students a commitment to serving others, particularly those in urban communities.

St. HOPE Leadership Academy’s educational program is based on a proven model developed and implemented by St. HOPE in Sacramento, CA. The school features a rigorous, standards-based college preparatory curriculum, intensive interventions for students who are performing below grade level, an extended instructional day and year, a defined character development program, and extensive leadership development and community service opportunities.
