St. HOPE Leadership Academy Charter School relies on the experience and exemplary training of our teachers. Experienced teachers with two or more years of experience in an urban educational setting committed to their own growth and learning can earn a salary that is 15% above the Department of Education scale. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package to employees and their partners. Additionally, teachers have an opportunity to add to their base income by working in the after-school program, teaching Saturday School or summer school. Overview

The St. HOPE Leadership Academy Charter School (SHLA) is expanding its instructional team for the 2011-2012 academic year. We are currently accepting applications for the positions listed below.

About Us

The St. HOPE Leadership Academy is a college preparatory charter middle school located in Harlem, New York City. The school, opened in 2008, provides a rigorous, standards based curriculum, intensive interventions for the students who are performing below grade level, a defined character development program, and extensive leadership development and community service opportunities in an orderly, structured and disciplined learning environment. SHLA features an extended day and school year.

Job Description

MATHEMATICS�INSTRUCTOR

Qualifications

We are seeking a team player committed to the St. HOPE mission, high expectations and to their own professional growth.

Required:

Mandatory for all applicants:

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university�

An understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and values of SHLA

  • A New York or out-of-state teaching credential
  • At least two years of classroom teaching experience with proven results in Mathematics (Middle School preferred)
  • Have demonstrated success in the classroom teaching mathematics to a broad range of learners
  • Evidence of professional commitment to continuous growth
  • Ability to model best teaching practices and assist in teacher professional development
  • Desire to work with students of various motivational levels
  • Be a reflective practioner, know your strengths and weaknesses
  • Ability to provide instruction to middle school students
  • Familiarity and knowledge of New York State Learning Standards for all subjects and specifically Mathematics
  • Possess "whatever it takes" attitude

Highly desired (but not required):

Teaching experience in an urban, underserved community;

  • Advanced degree (s).
  • Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing abilities (Spanish or French)
  • Leadership and/or counseling experience and/or ability to teach enrichment classes (ex: music, art, sports)
  • Previous coaching experience
